The definition of luxury at home is changing.

In a recent SFGATE article exploring California buyers’ growing interest in whole-home air and water filtration, Arrian Binnings shared what he’s seeing across the Bay Area. These features may not “make or break a sale” yet, but he sees their growth as part of broader longevity and wellness trends shaping what buyers value at home.

As he put it, buyers are increasingly saying, “to heck with the wine cellar” in favor of home gyms, saunas, and meditation or recovery spaces. “I think the newest flex is, instead of look at the 2,000 bottles of wine that I own, look at my VO2 max.”

Together, these shifts reflect a broader change in how buyers are thinking about their homes, not just in terms of comfort and luxury, but health, resilience, and longevity.
