SF: Stern Grove Festival

Stern Grove Festival is the nation’s longest-running free nonprofit music festival, bringing world-class live music to San Francisco since 1938.

Every summer, we gather generations of Bay Area communities in a natural amphitheater unlike anywhere else—where music, nature, and people come together. From legendary artists to emerging voices, Stern Grove is a place where everyone is welcome, and every show is free.

Marin: 47th Annual Fairfax Festival

The theme of this year's Fairfax Festival is "Further Together." It is both an homage to musical great Bob Weir and an recognition of the importance of community.

The Fairfax Festival itself is a grassroots expression of our local community. It is produced by the volunteer Fairfax Festival Committee with the support and cooperation of the Town of Fairfax.

The Fairfax Festival has become a tradition for many folks who return to share memories of past festivals, renew ties and take a break to enjoy each other's company. In an age like ours, the Fairfax Festival is a rare event. It is both a throw back to the past and an expression of a dynamic Fairfax community. We hope this year's Fairfax Festival will demonstrate that we can indeed go further together.

Marin: The Dipsea Race

First run in 1905, the Dipsea is the oldest trail race in America. It is run every year on the second Sunday in June. The scenic 7.4 mile course from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach is considered to be one of the most beautiful courses in the world. The stairs and steep trails make it a grueling and treacherous race. And its unique handicapping system has made winners of men and women of all ages. Because of its beauty and challenge, it is a very popular event, and because of safety and environmental concerns the number of runners is limited to about 1,500. While racers enter from all over the world, the Dipsea is primarily a Northern California event and the entry process is tilted slightly to favor local contestants.
